What is traditional driving?
Traditional driving is about keeping driven heritage alive: authentic or craftsman-built carriages, matching harness and correctly dressed drivers.
Unlike modern driving sport, the emphasis is not on speed but on style, harmony and precision. A jury judges the whole of horse, harness, carriage and crew.
The three phases
A classic competition consists of three phases. The penalty points of the three phases are added up; the lowest total wins.
- Presentation: the jury judges turnout, horses, harness, carriage and crew at a standstill.
- Road drive: a drive of about 15 kilometres on public roads, with passage controls and a required average speed.
- Cones: an agility course between cones topped with balls, within a time limit.
